Summary of Position:
Under the overall guidance and direction of the Network Director, the Senior Laboratory Manager will provide strategic guidance, direction, and oversight of laboratory operations for REVAIL programs. The Senior Laboratory Manager will support the Network Director and Deputy Directors of Site Operations and Clinical Science, and the Assistant Director Data Management in the effectiveness of operational service delivery. The Senior Laboratory Manager will supervise the Clinical and Research Laboratory Managers to facilitate communication and collaboration between the clinical and research laboratories. The position will also serve as the subject matter expert on laboratory operations to facilitate synergies between the clinical and research laboratories. The position will also provide input to OMT, study PIs, and the Director regarding laboratory needs associated with studies including but not limited to equipment, validation, IT, biorepository, and staff. The Senior Laboratory Manager will also be responsible for identifying synergies between the clinical and research laboratories, analyzing and reporting scientific data, and enhancing capacities and trainings in conjunction with the Laboratory Managers.
Description of Responsibilities
- Supervises Laboratory managers and ensures proper organization and conduct of work in accordance with the approved PREVAIL policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Ensures laboratory personnel are qualified and competent for assigned tasks.
- Collaborates with Technical and Program staff to ensure effective program implementation by ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP).
- Develops or reviews and approves lab Standard Operation Procedure and Laboratory operations manuals and ensure lab staff complete required training and competency assessments.
- Ensures effective implementation of quality management in the Lab in accordance with GCLP.
- Ensures effective management of equipment, supplies, and reagents, including timely requisition, accurate inventory to prevent disruption of laboratory operations due to supply stockout.
- Ensures proper maintenance, calibration, validation, or certifications of laboratory equpment.
- Ensures the physical conditions of the laboratories are appropriate and equipment operated properly and safely.
- Ensures effective communication between the lab, other staff, participants, and collaborators.
- Routinely reviews quality control and quality assessment activities to ensure problems occurring within the laboratory are identified and corrected, audits and audit responses are completed in a timely manner, CAPA management is effective and quality improvement efforts are durable.
- Review policies and procedures for personnel evaluation including JDs and recruitment plans.
- Perform other assigned responsibilities that align with PREVAIL’s mission, goals, and objectives.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) and procedures.
- Ability to analyze data to solve problems of moderate scope
- Sound decision-making ability when addressing issues that affect delays in schedules and the goals of the department
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Project or technical leadership required
- Supervisory or management experience required

Qualifications and job experience
- Management and leadership competence: Has a documented track record/appraisal of successful management of a Laboratory Program
- Education: Must be a licensed laboratory professional with a of Master’s degree, at a minimum, in Medical Laboratory Technology, Virology,
- Microbiology or similar field. A doctorate degree is preferred
- Typically requires at least four years of laboratory management utilizing Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLPs)
- Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Minimum 4 years of experience in line management of staff.
